These past few weeks God has been giving me opportunities to be at church and at different church events to get to know Him, so since I love Him, I thought that I should go. Sounds like the right thing to do, right?
Every weekend for four weeks straight I have had a church event to go to. I thought that if I kept going to things where I learned about Him that I would become closer to Him.

By the second week of these church events, I found myself wanting to just go home and relax. But I thought that I was just being selfish because God deserved my time, and being there was for Him. Then on the fourth week straight of all this stuff I broke down and finally just canceled what I had planned to rest and have a day to do nothing.
Best decision ever.
During that rest day I finally had time to connect with God. I finally took the time to talk to Him.
What I found was that even though I was going to church things, I wasn’t connecting with Him. I was hearing and learning about Him but I wasn’t getting to know Him. I learned that you can go to church all you want, but if you don’t take the time to pause and talk to God you’ve missed the point.
As a high-schooler myself I know how busy we can get. Trying to juggle homework, sports, clubs, time with friends, jobs, and church can sometimes become really overwhelming. But through all of this stuff, we need to take time to seek after God, being alone and praying to Him. So often we get caught up in all the things we have to do, we miss the reason why we are doing them. This is why we have to take time daily and talk to God. Some days you may not feel like it, but believe me, it’s worth it.
“After he (Jesus) had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone…” Matthew 14:23
“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6
